Product or Services General Features

Product or Material Purpose:

The purpose of the project is the inyection of captured CO2 into the concrete in order to accelerate its curing, improve compressive strenght and reducing the carbon footprint.

The application of this new product is similar to an ordinary concrete, but with a lower carbon footprint.

Type of Product:

Desired Product Functionalities:

Same functionalities as an ordinary concrete, possible increase on the compressive strenght.

Current Product State:

We have only found a company worldwide that applies this technology, Carboncure.

Known linmitations:

1. We presume that the technology of CO2 inyection is not complicated, but don’t have many information
2. At the moment, the CO2 supply would be in tanks, not captured CO2

Test Case Detailed information

Concept of the idea:

The concept of the idea is the introduction of recycled CO₂ into fresh concrete to reduce its carbon footprint without compromising performance.
Once injected, the CO₂ undergoes a mineralization process and becomes permanently embedded. This results in economic (less amount of cement is needed) and climate benefits for concrete producers (lower carbon footprint).

Technological Insight:

At the moment, we are trying to develop a technology to inject the CO2 into the concrete.

Role of LightCoce OITB Services:

– Upscaling the technology in a pilot plant
– Testing the concrete properties
– Measuring the concrete LCA

Technical Workplan:

– Testing the inyection technology in pilot plant
– Testing the concrete properties: compression strenght, porosity, carbonation, etc.
– Measuring the new carbon footprint of the concrete
